The State of Minnesota enacted a Wage Theft law on July 1 of this year, clarifying requirements for hiring notifications, handbook information and wage/pay stub details. Along with the notification and record keeping requirements, the state law outlines how it will review claims and what penalties businesses will face for Wage Theft issues.
Minneapolis is proposing its own ordinance that would enhance certain aspects of the state law that just went into effect. This ordinance proposal is on a fast track, with public hearing scheduled for the end of the month. This is in effort to roll it out along with the state law it dovetails.
Join us and Council Member Palmisano to discuss the proposed requirements and offer suggestions for improvements that make the ordinance a better tool for preventing wage theft, leveling the playing field among business owners, and streamlining its impact to your daily operations.
